San Francisco’s essential, formative and pioneering role in the world of concert posters is long established. Nevertheless, while the City’s unique poster art tradition has found a home in many major museum collections, San Francisco has lacked a local resource dedicated to preserving and expanding the art form, with a specific focus on the artists themselves. In the summer of 2013, a group of Bay Area poster artists and fans devoted themselves to addressing this issue.
Last September, Haight Street Art Center (HSAC) entered into a long-term lease agreement for a historic former college campus building in San Francisco’s Lower Haight neighborhood. Our primary goal will be to give artists a platform for making, exhibiting and selling great poster art more effectively and successfully than ever before. Construction on HSAC's 12,000 sq. ft. site is now completed. Equipment installation and interior finish work is well underway and we look forward to formally opening this summer.
