Our Story

San Francisco’s essential, formative and pioneering role in the world of concert posters is long established. Nevertheless, while the City’s unique poster art tradition had found a home in many major museum collections, San Francisco lacked a local resource dedicated to preserving and expanding the art form, with a specific focus on the artists themselves. In the summer of 2013, a group of Bay Area poster artists and fans devoted themselves to addressing this issue.

Last year, Haight Street Art Center (HSAC) entered into a long-term lease agreement for a historic former college campus building in San Francisco’s Lower Haight neighborhood. Construction on our 12,000 sq. ft. site is now completed and we’re actively pursuing our primary goals to give artists platforms for making, exhibiting and selling great poster art more effectively and successfully than ever before.

HSAC’s public grand opening on July 1st launched our inaugural poster exhibition The Art Of Consciousness. The show runs until November 4th. We’re now pleased to be underway installing HSAC’s printing studio and we look forward to our first official screen-printing projects this fall.
