Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter

Dear Friends and Community Members,

What’s transpired in our country over the past few weeks is upsetting, frightening and demoralizing and serves as an indication of how much work needs to be done. Today and more than ever, we need to learn from our history of injustice and commit to ending racism in America.

We condemn the senseless and violent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. As we mourn their loss, and the loss of countless others, we are reminded that they were individuals with lives, families, and dreams, and that they are also examples of the life-threatening peril posed by systemic racism around the globe.

The Haight Street Art Center stands firmly and resolutely in opposition to all forms of systemic, institutionalized racism and oppression.

Our mission is centered on reaching visitors of all ages through art, music, exhibitions and public programs, to encourage personal exploration and inspire action. Our values were born out of San Francisco’s countercultural movements, which have played a critical role in the ongoing struggle for racial equity and social justice in this country.

We strive to serve as a caring member of San Francisco Bay Area’s cultural landscape to advocate for just causes and values and to challenge unjust authority. We will not stand idly by. No one should. Black lives matter.

Respectfully,

The Haight Street Art Center
