The Haight Street Art Center is sad to announce the passing of legendary attorney, author, and Civil Rights icon Clarence B. Jones. Jones joined The Haight Street Art Center board in January of 2024 in the furtherance of the Art Center’s mission to bring educational and cultural-development programs and exhibitions to a range of communities, via music, art, social activism, and the ongoing history of social and political movements, including the counterculture.

“Best known as an icon of the civil rights movement, Clarence B. Jones was also a classically trained musician and a lover of the arts,” says Board Chair Roger McNamee.   “During his years as a board member of the Haight Street Art Center, Clarence guided us with his values and experience, enabling our very young organization to fulfill its potential.”
