The Haight Street Art Center is pleased to present “Junko Mizuno: Ink, Paper, Plastic,” which opens to the public on January 22, 2026, and runs through March 22, 2026—a reception for the artist is planned for early February. Mizuno’s work first appeared at the Haight Street Art Center in 2024 when she was a part of “Women of Rock Art.” This is her first solo exhibition at the center.
Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Junko Mizuno (pronounced: JOON-koh mi-ZOO-noh) has been living and making art in San Francisco since 2009. Despite a visual iconography that often revolves around cartoon-like depictions of powerful, sexy women, Mizuno’s art is impossible to categorize. While much of her work strongly suggests the influence of Japanese pop culture of the 1970s and ’80s, other pieces reveal inspirations as diverse as Japanese folk art and contemporary psychedelia, fashion and nature, comic books and video games.
For “Ink, Paper, Plastic,” Mizuno is showing dozens of screen-printed rock posters commissioned by Secret Serpents for bands like The Melvins, Faith No More, and Swans. In addition, the exhibition will include giclees from her Food Obsession series; several giclee Tarot cards; an assortment of original drawings; and numerous books and other multiples in paper and vinyl.
