The Power of Punk Compels You: The Photography of Rob Coons
Join us April 23rd form 6-pm for an opening party!
Rob has been listening to punk music since he was a teenager back in the 80s. He was
always fascinated by the incredible power and emotion shown through punk
photography that was featured in the endless zines, books and records he bought over
the years. But he did not try taking a camera to a show until 2016.
He snapped a few shots of the headliner that night and the course of his life changed forever.
Since then, his show photography has been featured in museums, magazines, shirts, records,
galleries, books, websites and on and on all over the world. And through it all, he has
kept his feet, mind and camera planted firmly in the world of underground punk and
metal. His emotional and physical connection to seeing heavy music live is constantly
captured throughout the photos he is taking. He is usually right in front of the band,
rocking out with everyone while using his camera as an extension of what he is already
feeling to capture as much of the chaos, rage and power of the band and audience that
he can. And he feels the ultimate goal of his photography is to capture the pure
unfiltered emotion that the band or audience member is feeling at the moment that
photo was taken and to immerse the viewer into a world where they can feel like they
are right there with him in the circle pit.
