“My experience growing up in the Boston area in the 70’s was that Columbus was a hero, touched by God, and ... we got the day off of school.

I wanted to ‘update’ the kind of image that I had seen my whole life with the reality of the moment of ‘discovery’ for the native peoples.”

The Haight Street Art Center honors Indigenous People's Day and the Ramaytush Ohlone land we are located on.  We also honor and appreciate all indigenous peoples and their connection to these lands and recognize the discrimination and violence inflicted upon them.  The Haight Street Art Center is committed to learning and responding to the challenges that indigenous people face, to building new relationships and to supporting indigenous artists and communities.
