In celebration of Women’s History Month, Haight Street Art Center (HSAC) is pleased to announce,  A View from the Throne: Gina Schock – Inside The Go-Go’s, an immersive exhibition of women’s achievements in rock music history, as seen through the eyes of Gina Schock, drummer of The Go-Go’s. The exhibition will be on view March 14 – May 16, 2026. Save the date for the March 14th Opening Party from 5-9pm and keep an eye out for more events to come!

Featuring photography, rare ephemera, posters, and archival materials, A View from the Throne is a deeply personal, visually rich story about one of the most influential all-female bands in rock history. Based on archival materials from Gina Schock, the exhibition explores the personal and artistic journey of Schock and The Go-Go’s, highlighting their impact as trailblazers who challenged industry norms and claimed space for women in music.

“At its core,  A View from the Throne  is reframing rock history through a feminist and participatory lens,” notes Kelly Harris, Executive Director, Haight Street Art Center (HSAC). “Schock’s photography and storytelling invite audiences to see themselves as the rock star – to recognize their own creative voice, passion, and agency. The exhibition celebrates not only The Go-Go’s legacy, but the broader cultural impact of women who dared to take the stage, redefine success, and bring punk ethos into the mainstream without losing its edge.”

From behind the drum kit to behind the camera lens, through Schock’s documentation the exhibition captures the lived reality of creating music, building community, and claiming space in an industry that historically denied women visibility and power. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021, The Go-Go’s were formally honored, after nearly 40 years in the industry, as the only all-female band to write and play their own instruments on a No. 1 album.

Portraying a legendary life on tour, as expressed through Schock’s unique perspectives bridging punk rebellion and pop breakthrough, the exhibition invites visitors to move through an environment curated to evoke the rhythm and intimacy of being in the band. Presented as a lived experience, A View from the Throne illuminates nearly four decades of documented backstage and dressing room moments, travel in motion, writing and recording, the visceral energy of being on stage, and the musical milestones that solidified Schock and The Go-Go’s at the epicenter of rock music’s story.

The exhibition features a variety of works, including Schock’s drum kit, candid tour photographs, rare musical tracks and video footage, stage costumes, personal letters, artwork, memorabilia, and concert ephemera. These items collectively offer an immersive journey into the untold stories and powerhouse achievements, seen through a uniquely captivating female lens. Visitors and rock and roll fans alike will discover rare backstage moments, iconic memorabilia, and vibrant artifacts that bring the band’s legendary history to life—creating a dynamic, hands-on adventure that invites everyone to step into the heart of music history, feel the pulse of live performance, and experience firsthand the electrifying energy that shaped a generation. This is more than an exhibition; it’s a chance to celebrate, connect, and be inspired by the trailblazers who forever changed the sound and spirit of rock.

“Gina Schock is a powerhouse drummer, celebrated songwriter, and musical trailblazer. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 as a member of The Go-Go’s, the most successful rock band in history comprised entirely of women. Gina is one-of-a-kind and I'm excited to see her artistry and drive celebrated with this Haight Street Art Center exhibit," said Rock & Roll Hall of Fame President, Greg Harris.

Presented during Women’s History Month, the exhibition aligns with HSAC’s ongoing commitment to amplifying voices that have shaped music, visual culture, and social movements from the margins inward. A View from the Throne is both a tribute and a call to action-honoring the past while inspiring future generations to step into their own spotlight.
