May 2021 Update: We have re-opened!
With two long months still ahead, and with so much at stake, it might seem the only thing certain about 2020 is uncertainty. During this bizarre and pretty scary time, Haight Street Art Center hopes and asks you to relax, wear a mask, and look at amazing art.
The Haight Street Art Center is honored to announce an upcoming exhibition in commemoration of the passage of the 19th Amendment. On August 26 (the day that the Amendment was passed into law), HSAC will unveil in an outdoor display and release for sale online the work of 22 women and non-binary artists.
The exhibition is now on view in the Garden Gallery 7am-9pm and online 24/7.
Like the great Winston Smith once said,
“If you liked 1984, you’ll love 2020.”
Please stay tuned. In the next few days, we will announce the details surrounding HSAC’s Anniversary Show, simply entitled “2020.”
Dear Friends and Community Members,
What’s transpired in our country over the past few weeks is upsetting, frightening and demoralizing and serves as an indication of how much work needs to be done. Today and more than ever, we need to learn from our history of injustice and commit to ending racism in America.
Artist Bonnie MacLean passed away on February 4th, in Buckingham, PA, where she resided since 1972. One of the true founders of San Francisco’s psychedelic poster movement of the 1960’s, Bonnie’s spectacular art will live forever.
Haight Street Art Center is proud to present Stanley Mouse: A Retrospective, a career-spanning collection created over more than five decades of nonstop artistic inspiration.
Dystopian Dreams brings together the work of Dennis Larkins and Winston Smith, two lowbrow, pop-surrealist masters who have fearlessly explored the hilarious and poignant absurdities of America’s utopian dreams and often dystopian realities.
